Greater Spokane League: In a game between two powerhouses, Justin Hale delivered the winner in overtime as Cheney slipped by visiting East Valley 3-2. Jesse Retan of the Blackhawks (10-3, 8-2) took the ball deep along the wing before crossing a pass to Hale, who booted the ball into the right corner. Ben Funkhouser had a goal and an assist for the Knights (9-1, 9-1). … Galen Brooks scored at the 50-minute mark to give Ferris (8-2, 8-2) a 2-1 win at Central Valley. The Saxons’ Taylor Yonago gathered the ball after a free kick and passed the ball to Brooks, who one-timed it for the game-winner. Kevin Cameron scored the lone goal for the Bears (7-5, 6-4). … Morgan Hartanov’s goal at the 76-minute mark gave Mt. Spokane a 4-3 win at Shadle Park. Renton Day tied the game for the Wildcats (6-6, 5-5) with a goal at the 73-minute mark. Mt. Spokane received first-half goals from Brett Megaard and Dustin Graybeal. The Highlanders (4-8, 3-7) took an early lead on goals from Kyle Wirtz and Jake Krueger. … John Schuab scored twice in Mead’s 5-1 win over visiting Rogers. Chris Windham scored at the 61-minute mark to start a string of four consecutive goals for the Panthers (9-2, 9-1). Justin Erickson made 10 saves for the Pirates (1-11, 0-10). … Peter Dunau and Seth Anderson scored first-half goals as Lewis and Clark (6-5, 6-4) posted a 2-0 win over host Gonzaga Prep (3-8, 2-8). Dunau scored after dribbling around five Bullpups defenders, while Anderson’s came on a penalty kick … North Central (9-3, 7-3) received goals from Scott Harris and Ryan Matern in a 3-0 win over visiting University (4-7, 4-6). NC also scored when a Titans defender headed the ball into his own net. … Neil Bachman netted three consecutive goals in the first half as visiting West Valley (4-8, 2-8) registered a 3-0 win over Clarkston (1-12, 1-9). Bachman’s first score came after a throw-in from Devin Merril.

Baseball

Great Northern League: Justin Cooper had a big effort in Pullman’s first game of a doubleheader with a four-hit, eight-RBI performance that helped deliver a 25-0 win over visiting Deer Park (0-12, 0-13). Cooper began the game with two hits and three RBIs in the first inning, then followed it up with a pair of homers and five RBIs in the fourth. Ryan Druffel added a solo shot in the fourth, while Marty Guettinger collected three RBIs and earned the win for the second-place Greyhounds (6-2, 5-2). A two-hit, five-strikeout performance from the combination of J.T. Levenseller and Mitch Riddle, along with seven Deer Park errors, led to a 10-0 Pullman win in the second game. Jamie Fertakis contributed three RBIs for the Greyhounds.

Softball

Greater Spokane League: Erin Fredrick struck out five and pitched a three-hitter as visiting East Valley posted a 4-0 win over Lewis and Clark (1-10, 1-10) at Hart Field. Tiffany Bittner picked up a pair of hits and scored once for the Knights (4-8, 4-8), and teammate Echo Abrahamson added an RBI triple in the second inning. … Play continues at 4 p.m. today with a heavy slate: Central Valley at Mt. Spokane; Clarkston vs. LC at Hart; Ferris at Cheney; Gonzaga Prep at EV; Mead at University; and Rogers at West Valley. Idle Shadle Park (11-0) continues to set the pace, followed by U-Hi (9-1), Mt. Spokane (8-3) and Rogers (8-3).
