Quilt show, tea this weekend

Steve Christilaw Correspondent

The Spokane Valley Community Center Auxiliary will hold its spring fundraiser, Gardens of Quilts and Tea, Saturday and Sunday at Horizon Middle School, 3915 S. Pines Road.

The quilt show begins at 9 a.m. each day, with a display of flower box quilts by local artist Michelle Crawford. Tickets for the show only are $5 and can be purchased at the door.

The elaborate tea, featuring an array of sandwiches, scones and desserts, will begin at 1 p.m. each day. Tickets for tea are $35 and include admission to the quilt show.

A table captain oversees each table for the tea. Each decorates the table using their own linens and tea service. Themes range from Christmas to the Mad Hatter, and displays of the area’s finest china and centerpieces will be available.

A complete tea table setting for eight and a king size quilt will be raffled with the winners being announced on Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets for the raffle must be purchased separately. The tea table to be raffled can be seen at www.spokanevalleycommunitycenter.org.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to support a number of family-oriented programs, including the center’s Layette Program, which provides blankets and other items to new mothers.
