Cards win in new home

Ben Roethlisberger’s appearance to open the extravagant new home of the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Ariz., was as brief as it was fruitless. Then Kurt Warner christened the place with a touchdown drive, and stayed a while longer.

Warner threw for two first-half scores and the Cardinals celebrated the long-awaited unveiling of their more than $450 million stadium with a 21-13 preseason victory over the Super Bowl champs in front of a capacity crowd of 63,400.

Roethlisberger, who lobbied his way into the starting lineup two months after sustaining serious head and facial injuries in a motorcycle crash, played one series. He completed 3 of 4 passes for 29 yards.

Warner played most of the first half, going 9 for 13 for 118 yards.

Jaguars 31, Dolphins 26: At Miami, the only hits Daunte Culpepper took in his brief Dolphins debut were slaps on the back when he came out of the game. Culpepper settled for one 2-yard completion, while Jacksonville completed four touchdown passes of 50 yards or more to beat Miami.

Panthers 14, Bills 13: At Charlotte, N.C., Keyshawn Johnson, in his first game with Carolina, caught an 18-yard pass from Jake Delhomme on the first play from scrimmage, the beginning of a game-opening touchdown drive on the way to a win over Buffalo.

Saints 19, Titans 16: At Nashville, Tenn., Todd Bouman tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Lance Moore with 3:30 left, and New Orleans rallied for a victory over Tennessee in Saints coach Sean Payton’s coaching debut.

Saints rookie Reggie Bush rushed for 59 yards on six carries, including a 44-yard run on his second carry.

Texans 24, Chiefs 14: At Houston, sixth-round pick Wali Lundy ran for 25 yards on his first carry and waltzed into the end zone untouched for Houston’s first TD on a 3-yard run three plays later to lead the Texans past Kansas City. He finished with nine carries for 59 yards.

Chargers 17, Packers 3: At San Diego, Philip Rivers completed 15 of 21 passes for 169 yards and connected with Vincent Jackson for a 22-yard first-quarter TD as the Chargers topped Green Bay.
