Fern takes three-stroke cushion

David Fern, whose home course is the Spokane Country Club, shot a 5-under-par 66 Saturday to take sole possession of the lead after the second round of the Spokane City Championship played at Downriver Golf Course.

Fern, whose two-round total is 137, was tied for fourth after Friday’s round. He has a three-stroke lead over Arnell Garza (Indian Canyon) and Kevin Braegger (Esmeralda).

Ron Lollis (Downriver) and Steve Kuhlmann (MeadowWood) are tied for first place in the first flight with a score of 151; Slade Zumhofe (Qualchan) moved into first place in the second flight with a score of 159; and Bob Clayton (Sun Dance) and Jerry Traynham (Qualchan) share the lead in the senior division with two-round totals of 148.

Today’s final round will be played at Qualchan.
