Benefit concert to feature accordions

Travis Rivers The Spokesman-Review

A concert featuring accordionists will benefit the family of famed local player Sammy Thomas at 8 p.m. Sept. 30 in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

The concert is sponsored by the Spokane Accordion Ensemble.

Thomas’ father, Stephen, died last week while recovering from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Sammy Thomas, a 17-year-old Cheney resident, is a member of the ensemble and was the recent winner of the National Accordion Competition in Buffalo, N.Y.

He is scheduled to participate in the World Cup Accordion Competition in Asker, Norway, in October.

On Saturday, Sammy Thomas will perform the solos he will play in Norway, and members of the Spokane Accordion Ensemble will also perform.

Donations will be accepted.
