Holiday activities in full swing

The Christmas season is now in full swing, and if your kids are looking for holiday activities, there are plenty to choose from.

Children ages four though 12 who are looking to buy Christmas presents for their loved ones can visit the Santa Express through Dec. 23 in the skywalk level of the Crescent Building in downtown Spokane.

Gifts from 50 cents to $8 will be for sale, and there are volunteers available to help kids select and wrap their gifts.

Proceeds benefit the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

‘A Christmas Story’ screening

This time each year, movie fans relive Ralphie’s quest for a Red Ryder BB gun.

In case you can’t wait for the 24-hour marathon one of the cable stations presents every Christmas Day, “A Christmas Story” will be shown Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Spokane County Library Valley Branch, 12004 E. Main Ave., Spokane Valley.

Just be careful you don’t shoot your eye out.

Kids Concert at Auntie’s

Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main, is hosting the KPBX Kids Concert Saturday at 1 p.m.

The concert will feature holiday music in the second floor auditorium of the bookstore and is for kids of all ages.

Winter break day camps

Specialized Needs Recreation is offering Camp Allstars Winter Break Day Camp Dec. 21 through 29 at Winton Elementary Gymnasium, 920 Lacrosse Ave., Coeur d’Alene.

Ages four through 21 with special needs can come from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for crafts, games, community outings, bowling and more.

The cost is $10 a day and there are some scholarships available. Participants should bring a sack lunch every day except for Dec. 21 and 28. They should also be dressed appropriately for the weather.

Girl Scout workshops

The Girl Scout Program Center, 1404 N. Ash St., is presenting holiday workshops from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 18 through 21 and Dec. 27 through 29.

Girls can learn cooking, science, computers and arts and crafts.

The cost is $20 a day and includes lunch.

Mobius workshops

Local children’s author Kenn Nesbitt will read from his book, “Santa Got Stuck in the Chimney” Saturday at 1, 1:45 and 2:30 p.m. in the Birthday Lab of Mobius Kids, 808 W. Main Ave.

After the story, kids can learn to make a jingle-bell necklace.

On Dec. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m., the museum is offering fuzzy yarn demonstrations.

Kids can watch the ancient art of drop-spindle yarn spinning, knitting, and they can make their own yarn crafts.

The cost of both of these events is free with the purchase of admission, $5.75 for those 12 months and older, or $4.75 for military personnel and seniors.
