Woods wins eighth player of year award
Tiger Woods won PGA Tour player of the year Tuesday for the eighth time, and the numbers looked familiar. He won multiple majors for the fourth time, and more tournaments than anyone else.
Woods won his first tournament of the year, then finished his PGA Tour season with six consecutive victories. In between, he disappeared from golf for more than two months to mourn the death of his father.
“I knew I had to go through – like anyone – the grieving process, and I had never done anything like that before,” Woods said. “The hardest thing for me to do was play golf.”
Woods also won the Arnold Palmer Award for leading the money list at $9.9 million and the Byron Nelson Award for the lowest scoring average at 68.11. Trevor Immelman was voted rookie of the year and Steve Stricker won comeback player of the year.

Bruce makes 2nd team
Washington State University defensive end Mkristo Bruce was named to the Associated Press All-America second team.
Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny and Southern Cal receiver Dwayne Jarrett became two-time Associated Press All-Americans.
Posluszny and Jarrett were selected to the first-team for the second consecutive season, joining Ohio State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and Arkansas running back Darren McFadden on the AP’s honor roll.
“Montana State junior cornerback Andre Fuller, 22, is charged with selling cocaine and has been suspended from the team pending the investigation, school officials said.
Also arrested were former players Edward Sullivan, 23, and Derrick Davis Jr., 21. All three are accused of selling drugs in June to an informant working for the Missouri River Drug Task Force.
“Todd Dodge was hired as coach at North Texas, making the rare jump from high school to Division I-A after an unprecedented run of success at Southlake Carroll. Dodge, a former Texas quarterback, has coached Carroll to a 77-1 record in Texas’ highest classification.

Sam Hornish Jr. declined an invitation to replace Jimmie Johnson on Team USA’s entry in the Race of Champions Nations Cup in Paris.

“An Iraqi bodybuilder was disqualified from the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, after steroids were found in his luggage at the airport. He joins four weightlifters who already have been suspended from the regional competition for doping violations. Saad Faeaz was tossed out after 134 doses of nandrolone were discovered.
