Christmas pageants, concerts planned at area churches

‘Tis the season for children’s Christmas pageants, special Christmas concerts and other special events and Spokane Valley churches are delivering. With little more than a week remaining before Christmas, now is the time to take advantage of these heart-warming traditions.

“ The worship choir and orchestra at Valley Fourth Memorial Church will present a Christmas musical titled “Jesus, No Other Name” at 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free and all are welcome. The church is at 2303 S. Bowdish Road.

“ Spokane Valley Assembly of God promises an evening of traditional Christmas carols during its “Christmas Classics” hymn sing at 6 p.m. Sunday. The children of the church will present their Christmas musical, “Miracle on Main Street,” during the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday.

Valley Assembly is at 15618 E. Broadway Ave.

“ Greenacres Christian Fellowship will host a special candle-light communion service Wednesday at 7 p.m. The service will include a prayer basket, where people can write down their prayer requests and put them in. The church is at 215 N. Barker Road.

“ The choir of Foothills Community Church will present the cantata “The Heart of Christmas” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Refreshments will be served following. Those attending are asked to bring a plate of treats to share. The church is at 11102 N. Forker Road.

“ The Sunday School children at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, will present their Christmas program, titled “Hosanna Rocks,” during the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday.

“ Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road, will present a trio of Christmas performances this week. The children of the church will perform their Christmas pageant “The Living Creche” during the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

The Christian Youth Theater Quartets will perform a Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted for CYT. And a Clarion Brass concert with drummer Michael Moon Bear and mezzo soprano Heather Peterson will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. “ Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, will host a combined worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. The service will be followed by a Christmas tea for all ages.

“ The Rev. Linda Crowe of Veradale United Church of Christ has an annual tradition of writing a contemporary Christmas story every year and presenting it to the congregation. This year’s “Spokane Valley Christmas Story” will be shared during the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road.

“ There will be a combined worship service at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave., at 10 a.m. Sunday for the presentation of the children’s Christmas program.

The church also will host the Christmas cantata “One Quiet Night” at 6 p.m. Sunday. The performance will include the choirs of Christ Lutheran, Good Shepherd Lutheran and Holy Trinity Lutheran. A dessert social will follow the performance.

“ The Sunday School children at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave., will present their Christmas play “Joy to You and Me” during the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday. A birthday party for Jesus will follow the service.
