Hotline, Web site help those affected by substance abuse

Name of program: Alcohol Drug 24 Hour Help Line, (800) 562-1240, www.adhl.org

What it does: This Web site and hotline offer resources for those suffering the effects of drug and alcohol abuse. The Web site includes a questionnaire to help find programs to get treatment, and facts about different drugs, including LSD, opiates, cocaine and alcohol.

Callers to the hotline can get referrals for support groups, outpatient treatments, inpatient treatments and other substance-abuse programs.

There also are resources for many other social outreach programs, such as domestic violence, eating disorders, senior citizen assistance groups and anger management programs.

Who runs it: The statewide nonprofit program receives funding from the King County Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services and the Washington State Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse as well as private donations from individuals and groups.

How to get help: Anyone in need of the hotline’s help may call the hotline or visit the Web site 24 hours a day.

How to help: The program accepts donations in the form of money orders or checks, which may be mailed to P.O. Box 80243, Seattle, WA 98108-0243. Donors should make the donations out to “ADHL.”

Volunteers also are needed, and anyone interested may call the hotline or send e-mail to staff@adhl.org.
