Special services, events planned for New Year’s

Although we’re still stuffed from our Christmas dinners, churches are looking forward to 2007 with special services and celebrations.

•The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is presenting Bring in the New Year at the Cathedral at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The evening will include an open labyrinth walk with accompanied harp music.

At 11 p.m. there will be a Holy Communion service followed by a reception in the guild rooms of the church.

On New Year’s Day, the labyrinth will be open from 1 to 4 p.m.

Calvary Church of Spokane, 511 W. Hastings Road, is presenting its annual New Year’s Eve Prophecy Update from 7 p.m. to midnight Sunday. Current world events will be examined with Biblical prophecy, and the evening will end with a worship service and Communion.

Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 W. Chelan Ave., is presenting a noon New Year’s Eve service Sunday.

The celebration will begin after the church’s 10:30 a.m. service with a lunch.

Sunday School classes

Every Sunday in January, Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Road, will present Keith Wyma in a series of discussions on the topic “Right and Wrong: How We Decide” at 9:45 a.m.
