NHL roundup:Senators continue to roll

Chris Phillips scored at 2:39 of overtime Saturday night and the Ottawa Senators rallied for a 3-2 victory over the rival Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto.

Ray Emery had a season-high 43 saves, and Dean McAmmond and Chris Kelly also scored for the Senators, who have won five straight.

Sabres 4, Thrashers 1: At Buffalo, N.Y., Thomas Vanek had two goals and an assist, and Ryan Miller made 29 saves in Buffalo’s victory over Atlanta in a battle between the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

Devils 2, Islanders 0: At Uniondale, N.Y., Martin Brodeur stopped 29 shots for his NHL-leading sixth shutout of the season and the 86th of his career as New Jersey held off New York.

Rangers 4, Capitals 1: At New York, Petr Prucha scored two goals to help New York snap a seven-game losing skid and end a scoreless streak at 153:38 in a fight-filled win at Madison Square Garden.

Michael Nylander and Darius Kasparaitis also scored for the Rangers. Ben Clymer had the Capitals’ score.

Lightning 3, Canadiens 1: At Tampa, Fla., Vinny Prospal snapped a personal 20-game goal-scoring drought with a tiebreaking second-period goal, helping Tampa Bay defeat Montreal.

Brad Richards and Filip Kuba also scored for the Lightning, who outshot Montreal 41-13.

Predators 5, Bruins 0: At Nashville, Tenn., Chris Mason stopped 38 shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season and Nashville beat Boston.

Paul Kariya, David Legwand and Jerred Smithson each scored and added an assist for Nashville.

Blues 2, Avalanche 0: At St. Louis, Manny Legace made 33 saves to lead St. Louis to a victory over Colorado.

Legace, in his first season with the Blues after six with Detroit, is 11-1-0 against Colorado.

Canucks 6, Oilers 2: At Edmonton, Alberta, Daniel Sedin had two goals and an assist, and Vancouver continued its strong post-Christmas play with a victory over Edmonton.

Mattias Ohlund added two goals, and Sami Salo and Jan Bulis once each for the Canucks, while Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Shawn Horcoff answered for Edmonton.

Coyotes 8, Sharks 0: At Glendale, Ariz., Curtis Joseph moved up the career victory list in style. Joseph stopped all 40 shots he faced for his 437th win, tying Jacques Plante for fifth place, and Phoenix beat San Jose.

Around the league

New York Islanders defenseman Radek Martinek broke a foot and will be out of action for four weeks.

Martinek, one of New York’s top defensemen this season, was injured Tuesday night during the Islanders’ win over the Rangers.

“The Carolina Hurricanes activated forwards Kevyn Adams and Andrew Ladd from the injured list.

Adams, 32, has missed six games with a wrist injury.

Ladd, 21, missed eight games after undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Dec. 14.
