Creating special Valentines at home

Kids can get into the spirit of Valentine’s Day by creating homemade valentines for special people in their lives. If you need ideas to get started, Family Fun Magazine suggests making cards out of rulers and red and white card stock that say “You Rule.” Another suggestion from the current issue of the magazine features construction paper hearts with Pixie Stix stuck through holes in the hearts to look like Cupid shot his arrow through them.

The magazine’s Web site, http://familyfun.go.com, has more than 40 card ideas for kids to make and share. If you are craft-challenged like me, you’ll appreciate the streaming video showing step-by-step instructions.

The magazine also suggests that kids can make cards to take to a local children’s hospital to help the young patients celebrate the holiday.
