Be a sport, bring bids to Awesome Auction

Steve Christlaw The Spokesman-Review

The Spokane Valley Seventh-day Adventist School is looking for bids. Multiple bids.

And if they get enough bids, the school wants to trade them for a few basketball hoops and a nice volleyball net.

The school will hold its annual Awesome Auction March 5, beginning at 4 p.m. on its campus at 1603 S. Sullivan Road.

Because the goal is to build a few outdoor basketball hoops and purchase volleyball nets, the dinner and auction will take on a tailgating theme.

“We wanted to keep the theme going,” explained auction committee member Debbie McConnachie. “We’re going to have hamburgers and hot dogs and other foods you find at a good tailgating party – but we do have someone preparing the food that does a great job, so it will be good.”

Some of the auction items boast that sports theme, as well, she said.

For example, one item will be front-row seats to a pair of Spokane Chiefs hockey games at the Spokane Arena. Another is a personally autographed football from former Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien.

Other items include a dinner for two at Seattle’s Space Needle and gourmet brunch with the school’s principal, tickets to Silverwood and Wild Walls, hot stone massages at a local spa and weekend stays at an area bed and breakfasts.

Past auctions have helped pay for the school’s library and computer room.
