Killed Valley woman identified

From staff reports

A 25-year-old Spokane Valley woman found dead in her home Saturday was identified Monday as Jamie L. Phillips.

Her body was found by Spokane Valley police after a man described as her ex-boyfriend called Tacoma police Saturday and allegedly confessed to the killing. The body was found about 6:30 p.m. in the home near East Trent Avenue and North Adams Road.

KIRO-TV in Seattle identified the victim based on an interview with Phillips’ father, John Phillips of Tacoma.

Pierce County Jail authorities identified the suspect Sunday as Anselmo Ricardo Braffith. He was being held on one count of second-degree murder. Bond was set at $50,000.

Spokane Valley Police Chief Cal Walker was unavailable Monday to provide new details about the investigation, including the cause and time of the woman’s death or the whereabouts of her children.

Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said Saturday that the former boyfriend would remain in custody in Pierce County until Spokane authorities retrieve him.

According to Spokesman-Review archives, Braffith was listed as father and Phillips as mother in birth announcements of a daughter born in 2003 and a son born last May.
