Poster designs for Paint Out wanted

The Timber Stand Gallery in Sandpoint is seeking artists to submit poster designs for the first annual Plein Air Paint Out. In June, the gallery, Windermere Idaho First Realty and Panhandle State Bank will host more than 20 artists from throughout Idaho to paint nature scenes for two days. To announce the event, a poster design will be needed by Jan. 31.

The winning artist will receive $500, and the original design will be auctioned during the event.

Auditions

•The Spokane Civic Theatre is holding auditions for “Life 101: A New Musical,” by local writers Donovan Stohlberg, Yvonne A.K. Johnson and L.B. Hamilton, Jan. 16 and 17 at 6:30 p.m. on the main stage of the theater, 1020 N. Howard St.

Needed are four men in their 20s and 30s, one man older than 40 and three women in their 20s and 30s. Auditioners should prepare a verse and chorus of a song from a contemporary musical and will be expected to read cold from the script.

Production dates are March 10 through April 1. For more information, call the theater at 325-1413.

•Students in the third through sixth grades are invited to audition for the Moscow (Idaho) Arts Commission Youth Choir on Jan. 18 and 19 at 3:10 p.m. at Lena Whitmore Elementary School, 110 S. Blaine, Moscow.

Auditioners will be assessed during 10-minute appointments, which must be scheduled in advance. No advance preparation is necessary.

Choir rehearsals will be Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. starting Jan. 23 at the school. The fee is $52 a semester ($32 for students on the school lunch program), due at the time of audition.

Classes and workshops

•Keiko Van Holt will present a Sumi-e, Asian-style painting and Japanese calligraphy class at Spokane Art Supply, 1303 N. Monroe St., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon for six weeks starting this week.

She also will offer the class at Spokane Art Supply Too, 14401 E. Sprague Ave., on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m.

•Sandpoint artist Diana Moses Botkin is presenting a painting workshop Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Timber Stand Gallery, 334 N. First St., Sandpoint.

The class will discuss pastels as a quick painting medium, capturing form and using detail to emphasize realism.
