Dinner proceeds will go toward heart surgery

Short on ideas of what to do on Valentine’s Day?

Take your sweetheart to the Heart for Heart Valentines Benefit on Feb. 12, and not only enjoy a romantic evening of food, dance and music, but also help an area single mother.

The evening event will be at the Lake City Senior Center, 1916 Lakewood Drive, Coeur d’Alene, and will include a buffet of Mediterranean food provided by the White House Grill, desserts from Sweet Nothin’s, dance entertainment provided by Troupe Shalimar, Sisters of Selket, and other area belly dancers, and love songs performed by Amara.

Tickets are $30.

Proceeds will provide much needed heart surgery for Liz Hill, a Coeur d’Alene resident and single mother of two small children.

For more information, call Ravisha at 290-2152 or send e-mail to ravishaluvsdance@yahoo.com.

Donations are being accepted for those who wish to contribute but are unable to attend the event.

Send donations to the account for Elizabeth Hill at the Coeur d’Alene branch of Washington Mutual.

Gold jewelry for art education

The Spokane Art School, a nonprofit arts institution, will be hosting a Hearts of Gold fund-raiser starting Wednesday through Feb. 14.

Bring a gold donation to the school, 920 N Howard St., Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donations can be in the form of a single earring, a broken chain, an old tie back, a crown from the dentist, a gold link from a watchband, gold coins, gold nuggets, etc.

A jeweler from Dodson’s Jewelers will be on site to weigh the gold to determine its value, and a signed tax-deduction letter will be mailed out following the event.

Hayden Library receives grant

The Coeur d’Alene Kiwanis Club has provided the Hayden Library a grant of $1,000 to benefit the Tots and Tales program for new parents in Kootenai County.

The grant will enable the library to purchase board books and bags, which will be distributed to all new parents at Kootenai Medical Center.

According to Karen Yother, children’s librarian at the Hayden Library, “Every parent who leaves the birthing center with their new baby receives a bag with music and rhymes for babies, a free book, grow charts; and literacy materials from the Idaho State Library” through the Tots and Tales program.
