In new space, Details has spa experience covered
Sometimes, when it needs to be done, you have to do it yourself.
That’s exactly what Renee’ Hartshorn did when she bought an old, rundown house at 14025 E. Sprague Ave. She wanted to move her business, Details Salon and Day Spa, from a strip mall farther down the street into a building of her own. It took a little bit of work from everybody.
“This whole salon and day spa was built by a dream and it was built by our whole family,” Hartshorn said while cutting a customer’s hair Wednesday afternoon. It wasn’t just family that helped – some of the 10 salon employees pitched in as well. “I feel pretty privileged to have that type of staff here.”
The salon offers a day spa experience, and somebody “could spend the whole day in here” if they wanted, Hartshorn said. Details offers full hair services, as well as hand and foot care. Massages are on the way, Hartshorn said.
The biggest challenge in opening the business has been getting the renovated building. Hartshorn purchased the old home with her husband, Chuck. They spent from Jan. 1 to May 30 tearing out the inside and starting over. Nearly everything, from the floors to the landscaping, was done without outside help.
It’s also been a challenge learning about the permitting process for Spokane Valley, Hartshorn said.
The response from customers and the community in general has been great since opening the renovated building, Hartshorn said.
“The best reward is everybody being so happy and helpful,” she said.
