PORTLAND, ORE. –The Portland Timbers upset England’s Coventry City 4-3 Saturday night on penalty kicks.

After tying at 1-1, the teams went into a series of penalty kicks rather than overtime, as arranged for the exhibition match that drew a crowd of 10,985 at PGE Park.

Forward Byron Alvarez gave the Timbers the victory. His successful penalty shot was followed by a miss by Coventry City midfielder Claus Jorgensen.
