Man arrested after attempted assault

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Spokane police arrested a 21-year-old man for the alleged sexual assault of a woman in Browne’s Addition on Thursday.

Police arrested Steven C. Allgoewer on Thursday night on suspicion of indecent liberties and second-degree assault.

The arrest followed a day-long investigation by the city’s Sexual Assault Unit after a 39-year-old woman reported that a man knocked her down and attempted to assault her in the 1700 block of West Riverside. Witnesses chased the suspect until he flagged down a red Pontiac and fled the area.

The woman was treated for bruises and abrasions.

Late Thursday afternoon, detectives found the vehicle in east Spokane and impounded it for evidence, according to a police press release.

Allgoewer was arrested at a north Spokane apartment complex just before 8 p.m., police said.

Police are trying to determine whether Allgoewer is connected to four similar attacks that occurred in the past three months.
