Let Sonics, Storm leave

The Spokesman-Review

Sonics and Storm sold to an Oklahoma investment group! Hooray! Who cares? We in Eastern Washington are again going to be held hostage and blackmailed by Western Washington’s decision to build a new facility for some out-of-state investors – where, incidentally, the profits will go.

I for one don’t care where the Sonic and Storm go as long as we as taxpayers aren’t burdened to keep them in Seattle. We in Eastern Washington receive no benefits or revenues from this venture. As far as I am concerned, Sonics and Storm, get out of town!

We were bamboozled with building a new stadium for the Seahawks and Mariners and of course we are helping pay for it and get nothing from it. How few people from Eastern Washington go there or benefit from these facilities? Darned few.

This an excellent opportunity and reason for Eastern Washington to exercise its right to secede from Western Washington under the provision in the state charter. We won’t be saddled with paying for enrichment of Western Washington at our expense.

So my answer to the Oklahoma investors: You bought ‘em, you keep ‘em. Now get out of town.
