Skyview school wins healthy sum

The Spokesman-Review

Skyway Elementary School will receive $3,500 to spend on health and fitness related activities and equipment thanks to students in Paul Jones and Tracy Mosgrove’s fifth-grade classes.

Jones’ class logged more than 18 million steps – an average of 800,000 per student – in the 11-week Coeur d’Alene School District contest, earning the top prize of $2,500. Mosgrove’s class took second place, bringing in $1,000 more for Skyway. The contest, called “Move it,” was sponsored by Regence BlueShield of Idaho to encourage children to be active.

Vacuum cleaner salesman sought

Law enforcement agencies across Idaho are asking residents if they have been contacted by a 31-year-old man arrested three weeks ago for solicitation of an underage female and eluding in Clearwater County.

Jeffery John Hergert, a vacuum salesman described as 5-foot-11 and 225 pounds, allegedly approaches young girls and offers them jobs, dates and rides. U.S. Forest Service agents said Friday that Hergert had been spotted in Stites, Idaho, with his pants unzipped as he went door to door trying to make sales.

According to other departments, Hergert is sought for questioning in Garden City (enticement), Gem County (stalking) and Lewis County (enticement). Gem County officers say his criminal history includes stalking-related charges in five states.

Hergert drives a silver 2004 Mercury Monterey minivan with Idaho Peace Officer Memorial license plates number 1476J, said Latah County public information officer Jennifer McFarland.
