Providence leader departs

The Spokesman-Review

Rich Umbdenstock, longtime leader of Providence Services here, leaves Spokane this month to take a top job with the American Hospital Association.

His departure, to eventually head the national organization with 4,800 hospital members, is among several key management moves for the Catholic health care system that operates Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Skip Davis is no longer CEO of Sacred Heart, instead taking on more regional and corporate responsibilities within the larger Providence organization in the wake of the Providence Services merger with Seattle affiliate Providence Health System at the beginning of the year.

Mike Wilson is president of Sacred Heart and is in charge of the day-to-day operations of Spokane’s largest hospital.

Elaine Couture has been promoted to chief operating officer of Sacred Heart, while Peggy Mangiaracina, executive director of Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, has been appointed vice president at Sacred Heart. Other changes include the naming of Bev Osborne as director of medical staff services for Sacred Heart; Helen Andrus as director of finance for Sacred Heart and Providence Health Care; and Patrick Clarry as vice president of human resources for Sacred Heart.

Red Lion stock sale successful

Red Lion Hotels Corp. raised $64.3 million in a public stock offering, before underwriting expenses are deducted, the Spokane-based company announced Tuesday.

The company, which owns, leases, manages or franchises 61 hotels that mostly are located in the Western U.S., said it will use the money to retire debt and for general corporate purposes.

Red Lion sold 5 million shares of common stock at $11 per share. A group of shareholders sold about 635,000 more shares in the offering, but the money raised in that sale doesn’t go to Red Lion, the company said. In addition, underwriters of the stock offering exercised their option to purchase about 845,000 shares.
