Troop 2 pair reach Eagle

Matthew Cannata and Shawn Cannata were recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award given in the Boy Scouts. Both are members of Troop 2.

For his project Matthew Cannata held a wish list drive for the Ronald McDonald House, collecting donations and needed items.

Shawn Cannata remodeled a nursery and three Sunday School rooms at Fowler United Methodist Church for his project. They are the sons of Sam and Marla Cannata.

• Army Pvt. Peter Kuntz recently graduated from Phase I of the radar repairer advanced individual training course at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Kuntz, a 1997 graduate of Riverside High School, is the son of Wayne and Diane Kuntz of Spokane.

• Army National Guard Pvt. James Anderson recently graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Anderson is the son of Colleen Anderson of Fairchild Air Force Base.

• Doris Voshell was recently awarded the Marian Herzer Award by Project Joy. The award, named for Project Joy’s founder, is given annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to Project Joy and the community. Voshell has been a member of the entertainment group for 11 years, dancing with the Happy Feet Cloggers, Bonnie’s Line Dancers and the Diamond Duo Dancers.

• Two area residents recently graduated from the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Knoxville, Tenn., and were commissioned second lieutenants in the Air National Guard.

Peter Helman, an intelligence officer with 18 years of military service, is assigned to the 141st Air Refueling Wing at Fairchild Air Force Base. He is a 2001 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Fla.

Timothy Ridnour, also assigned to the 141st Air Refueling Wing at Fairchild Air Force Base, is a pilot with seven years of military service. Ridnour is a 1999 graduate of Cheney High School and a 2004 graduate of Eastern Washington University. He is the son of Jerry Ridnour of Medical Lake and Barbara Ridnour of Cheney.

• T.J. Westre of Spokane recently won an award for an essay submitted for a contest organized by Creative Communication Inc. Westre, a sixth-grader at Midway Elementary School, was one of the top 10 winners selected in her age group. Each winner received a $50 savings bond and will have his/her essay included in an anthology titled “Celebrating What is Important to Me.” Westre is the son of Kirk and Sharon Westre.

• Derik LeFave of Moses Lake was recently awarded a $500 scholarship from Progressions Credit Union of Spokane. The scholarship was awarded based on academic achievement and community involvement.

• Elizabeth Korsmo and Megan Morse were both recently awarded Girl Scout Cookie Program scholarships. Korsmo, a senior at Shadle Park High School, received $1,000; Morse, $750.

Idaho

• Nine students from North Idaho College’s Business Professionals of America chapter were recently honored at the 40th annual BPA national leadership conference in Florida. Each student qualified for the national competition by placing in the state conference in Boise. Several were given an Ambassador Torch award, the highest honor given for community service. The students are listed by their hometown.

Coeur d’Alene: Carmen Dawson, Ambassador Torch award; Robert Hoss, fifth in Financial Analyst Team; Dawn Kushlan, fourth in Graphics Design Promotion, Ambassador Torch award; Danny Myers, eighth in Computer Network Technology, eighth in Information Technology Concepts, Ambassador Torch award.

Post Falls: Chris Arnold, sixth in Legal Office Procedures.

St. Maries: Kelsey Bonds, second in Desktop Publishing, third in Presentation Management (individual); Morgan Purvis, first in Advanced Interview Skills, Ambassador Torch award.

Spirit Lake: Velda “Cindy” Kuhn, Ambassador Torch award.

Spokane: Tim Hetzler, fifth in Administrative Research Project, fifth in Financial Analyst Team, Ambassador Torch award.

• Summer Gibbs of Coeur d’Alene was recently awarded a $750 Girl Scout Cookie Program Scholarship. She is a 2006 graduate of the Bridge Academy.

• Erin Ault of Wallace was recently named to the spring dean’s list at Mayville State University, N.D. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.5 or better to be named to the list.
