• The Stevens County Historical Society recently announced the winners of its “Between Fences” photography and quilt contests. All entries are on display with the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit “Between Fences” at the Keller Heritage Center in Colville.

• Ten area students have been named recipients of $1,000 scholarships from the Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program sponsored by Comcast. The scholarships were awarded based on community service, leadership skills and academic achievement.

The winners are: Brian Carpenter, Central Valley High School; Jordan Clark, Lewis and Clark; Christopher Durgan, Gonzaga Prep; Matthew Jackson, St. George’s; Danielle Slaughter, Shadle Park; Rachel Smith, University; Lee Smoot, Rogers; Lisa Stoll, West Valley; Sandra Turnbull, East Valley; and Jody Zellman, Ferris.

• Two area students were recently named to the spring 2006 dean’s list at Carroll College. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.5 or above to the named to the list. The students are Amanda Breckenridge of Veradale and Michael Kohler of Spokane. Kohler holds a 4.0 g.p.a.
