Thompson soars in Comet win

Tina Thompson made up for the worst game of her career in a big way on Thursday night.

Thompson scored 22 points to help the Comets beat Washington 83-76 in Houston to hand the Mystics their fourth straight loss.

She also hit a turnaround jumper with 2:11 remaining to start a 10-0 run to end the game. Thompson went 9 of 16, two days after scoring 2 points in a 73-57 loss to Connecticut.

“You definitely put it behind you,” Thompson said. “You can’t dwell on it, positively or negatively, or you end up wanting (the next game) too bad.”

Michelle Snow added 14 points and a career-best 17 rebounds for Houston (11-6), which won its eighth in a row at home.

Fever 66, Shock 56: At Indianapolis, Tamika Whitmore scored 12 of her 22 points in the fourth to lead Indiana to a victory over Detroit.

Sky 75, Sting 69: At Chicago, Candice Dupree had 15 points and seven rebounds as Chicago beat Charlotte.

Monarchs 87, Lynx 76: At Sacramento, Erin Buescher had a career-high 25 points and nine rebounds as Sacramento built a big early lead and beat Minnesota.
