Pirates 7, White Sox 6: At Pittsburgh, Freddy Sanchez led off the ninth inning with a home run and Pittsburgh rallied to end a 13-game losing streak, its longest since 1900, by beating Chicago. This stopped its longest skid in the modern era and the second-longest streak in franchise history.

Athletics 6, Padres 5 (14) : At San Diego, Oakland closer Huston Street squandered a two-run lead in the ninth, but his team rallied against Scott Cassidy without getting a hit in the 14th. Pinch-hitter Antonio Perez drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the 14th and Oakland edged San Diego to avoid a three-game sweep in a matchup of West Division leaders. Oakland had three walks, including one intentional, a hit batsman and a sacrifice in the 14th.

Giants 2, Rangers 1: At San Francisco, Omar Vizquel’s go-ahead single with two outs in the eighth inning sent San Francisco to a victory over Texas, completing a three-game sweep. Texas lost its fifth straight while San Francisco had its first three-game home sweep since April. Barry Bonds got the day off for San Francisco following a night game Wednesday after having appeared in 11 straight contests.

Phillies 4, Orioles 0: At Baltimore, Philadelphia ended its seven-game losing streak, using an outstanding pitching performance by Ryan Madson to defeat Baltimore. David Dellucci hit a two-run homer for Philadelphia, which avoided a three-game sweep and won for only the fourth time in its last 19 games.

Red Sox 4, Mets 2: At Boston, Coco Crisp made a spectacular, diving catch to preserve Curt Schilling’s 10th win and Boston stretched its winning streak to 12 games with a victory over New York. David Ortiz homered in the eighth inning, sealing a three-game sweep in a matchup of first-place teams.

Blue Jays 8, Nationals 4: At Toronto, Lyle Overbay homered and Eric Hinske had three hits and three RBIs. Roy Halladay won his 10th game and Toronto completed a three-game sweep of Washington to move to a season-high 10 games better than .500.

Reds 6, Royals 5: At Cincinnati, Felipe Lopez hit a home run, Ken Griffey Jr. homered for the fourth straight game and Adam Dunn had an RBI double in the eighth inning to help Cincinnati defeat Kansas City and win consecutive games for the first time since June 8.
