Tibet abbot giving talk

Padma Ling Buddhist Center, 1014 W. Seventh Ave., is presenting speaker Khentrul Lodro Thaye Rinpoche Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Rinpoche is the abbot of Mardo Gashi Choling in Tibet and will speak about “Seven Point Mind Training.”

Admission is $10 per session or $40 to attend all sessions.

Music at St. John’s

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is presenting “The Sampler: a Potpourri of Performing Arts” on Friday.

The doors will open at 6:15 p.m. with a silent auction, and the concert will begin at 7:30.

Performers will include the Spokane Jazz Orchestra, Interplayers Theatre, the Spokane Coeur d’Alene Opera and Holy Names Music Center.

Admission is $17.50 in advance, $20 at the door and $10 for students; hors d’oeuvres and wine are included.

Housewarming

St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9706 N. Division St., is presenting a concert Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

The concert is part of celebrations to dedicate the church’s new multipurpose facility.

The evening will include Irish dancers, a jazz combo, African drummers, and piano and vocal performances.

The church is also offering a housewarming barbecue and country dance March 12 at 6:30 p.m., which will be catered by O’Doherty’s.

Tickets are for sale until Sunday.

The cost is $10.95 for adults, $7.50 for youth ages 11 through 17, $4.95 for children 5 through 10 and free for those younger.

Israeli hospital fund-raiser

The Interfaith Council and the Spokane Chapter of Hadassah is hosting a benefit for the pediatric department of Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem Sunday at noon at the Manito Golf and Country Club.

Dr. Mary Noble of Spokane will received the National Leadership award at the luncheon, and Dr. Hrair Garabedian will receive the Myrtle Wreath Award for community service. And an Israeli physician from the hospital will give a talk.

The cost is $18 per person.

Speakers,study groups

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., is presenting The Rev. Christodoulos from the Monastery of Archangel Michael in Tharri, Rhodes Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in observation of the beginning of Lent in the Orthodox church.

Christodoulos will speak on the subject of joy and will also participate in the church’s liturgy on Sunday.

Mission Community Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave., is presenting a six-week study groups starting Sunday at 9 a.m.

“Muffins with the Master” will be led by Pastor Carol Williams and Georgette Thornton and will discuss simplifying your life and making room for a spiritual journey.
