Oklahoma in trouble, states its case to NCAA

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Oklahoma acknowledged Thursday it violated NCAA rules about telephoning basketball recruits, but the school asked the organization to stop short of citing the Sooners for “lack of institutional control,” which could lead them to be banned from postseason play.

A 194-page response to allegations, requested by the NCAA, includes the university’s explanation of the circumstances that led to more than 550 impermissible telephone contacts with at least 17 recruits by basketball coach Kelvin Sampson, formerly of Washington State, and three assistant coaches between April 2000 and September 2004.

K-State fires Wooldridge

Kansas State fired men’s coach Jim Wooldridge shortly after the Wildcats’ season ended with a 73-65 loss to Texas Tech in the first round of the Big 12 tournament at Dallas.
