Money will be spent on student support materials

On Tuesday, the East Valley School District is asking patrons to approve a maintenance and operations levy. This is a replacement of a current levy.

As a longtime employee of the district, I can assure patrons that the district has always put the needs of its students first and that the funds will be spent wisely. If approved, the money will be spent on student support materials such as classroom supplies, librarians, nurses, counselors, technology and electives. It also covers student activities and transportation. Building support, including the community’s use of the district facilities, liability insurance, maintenance supplies and service, and utilities also will be included.

I encourage all East Valley voters to approve the maintenance and operations levy. And remember, ballots need to mailed by Tuesday.

Levies are replacements, not new

Folks voting in Tuesday’s upcoming election in the West Valley School District need to be aware that they are not voting for a new tax. The maintenance and operations levy and capital projects (technology) levy are replacements and not new taxes. The proposed levy will not mean a tax increase – but an estimated .18 cents per thousand decrease over 2006 tax assessments.

We all need to stand behind our kids and give them the best programs available to help them along in this ever-changing world.
