Burke, Tampa shut down Canadiens

Sean Burke made 31 saves and Montreal-area natives Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis each had a goal to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 2-1 victory over the Canadiens on Monday night in Montreal.

The Lightning snapped a two-game losing streak to move a point ahead of Montreal for seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 72 points.

Burke lost his shutout bid when Mike Ribeiro scored a power-play goal with 2:22 remaining, but the Lightning held on for their second win in seven games.

Lecavalier scored his 28th goal 11:52 into the second period, ending Canadiens goalie Cristobal Huet’s shutout streak at 163 minutes, 11 seconds.

Blues 3, Blue Jackets 2 (OT): At St. Louis, Christian Backman scored 3:49 into overtime to give St. Louis a victory over the Blue Jackets, Columbus’ first loss in 15 overtime contests.

Stars 4, Canucks 2: At Dallas, Mike Modano scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period and Dallas stretched its home winning streak to eight games with a victory over Vancouver.

Flames 4, Avalanche 3: At Calgary, Alberta, Jarome Iginla scored his 29th and 30th goals of the season, and Miikka Kiprusoff made 26 saves to help Calgary beat Colorado and regain the Northwest Division lead.

Bryan Marchment and Chuck Kobasew also scored for the Flames, who rebounded from a 3-0 loss in Denver on Sunday to move a point ahead of second-place Colorado.

Sharks 4, Kings 3: At San Jose, Calif., Jonathan Cheechoo scored three goals on assists from NHL scoring leader Joe Thornton as San Jose survived a wild third period to beat Los Angeles for its third straight victory.

•Sharks forward Scott Parker was suspended for two games for attempting to climb a glass barrier to fight Nashville’s Brendan Witt.
