Mike Modano had a goal, two assists and the first shootout goal in the Dallas Stars’ seventh victory in eight games, 4-3 over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

Antti Miettinen also scored in the shootout for the Stars, who set an NHL record with their 10th come-from-behind win after trailing entering the third period – though four of those wins were in shootouts, which didn’t exist before this season.

Dallas improved to an NHL-best 10-0 in shootouts this season, snapping the Sharks’ four-game winning streak. Dallas rookie Jussi Jokinen missed on the Stars’ second attempt in the shootout, his first miss in 10 tries in the tiebreaker.

Ville Nieminen and rookies Patrick Rissmiller and Milan Michalek scored for San Jose in a 79-second flurry late in the second period, with Rissmiller scoring his first NHL goal and Nieminen getting his first goal with the Sharks.

But Modano tied it early in the third, and Dallas followed up Milan Michalek’s shootout score for San Jose with goals from Modano and Miettinen. When Marty Turco stopped Nils Ekman’s final attempt, the Stars celebrated.

Jere Lehtinen and Niko Kapanen scored in regulation for Dallas.

Bruins 4, Hurricanes 2: At Boston, Rookie Brad Boyes scored three third-period goals for his first career hat trick to lead the Bruins to their second straight victory.

Patrice Bergeron added a goal and an assist, and Tim Thomas made 38 saves after signing a three-year contract extension earlier in the day.

Eric Staal and Rod Brind’Amour scored for Carolina.

Rangers 5, Maple Leafs 2: At New York, Jaromir Jagr hit the 100-point mark in style Saturday night, scoring his NHL-leading 46th goal and setting up three others for the Rangers.

Jagr made several dents in the Rangers’ record book. He passed Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert for points in a season by a right winger; tied Vic Hadfield’s mark of 23 power-play goals; and became the sixth Blueshirt to reach 100 points in a season – the first since Mark Messier and Brian Leetch did it in 1991-92.

Flyers 4, Thrashers 2: At Atlanta, Philadelphia goalie Antero Niittymaki made 25 saves and helped turn back eight of nine Atlanta power-play opportunities.

The Flyers, 4-5-1 since the Olympic break, are fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, and two points behind the New York Rangers in the Atlantic Division.

Senators 4, Sabres 2: At Ottawa, Peter Schaefer and Bryan Smolinski each had a goal and an assist to help Ottawa tie Carolina for the Eastern Conference lead and end Buffalo’s winning streak at eight games.

Zdeno Chara added a power-play goal and Chris Kelly scored into an empty net in Ottawa’s fourth win in five games. Ottawa held off the Sabres’ challenge for first place in the Northeast Division and moved into a tie for the top spot in the Eastern Conference with Carolina, a 4-2 loser on Saturday in Boston.

Penguins 5, Canadiens 4: At Montreal, Andre Roy scored his second goal of the season in the third period, and John Leclair had a goal and two assists in the first period to lead Pittsburgh.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 42 shots, including 18 in the second as Montreal outshot Pittsburgh 19-5 in the period and 46-23 overall.

With the score tied at 4, Roy took a pass from Sidney Crosby on a 2-on-1 and drove in on Canadiens goalie David Aebischer. The Penguins’ forward completely fanned on his shot, but the puck’s forward momentum carried it under Aebischer’s right pad and into the net to give Pittsburgh its second and final lead of the game.

Panthers 4, Capitals 3 (SO): At Washington, Joe Nieuwendyk scored the only shootout goal to lift Florida.

Nieuwendyk scored in the second round of the shootout, and Florida goalie Roberto Luongo shut out Washington on its three attempts.

The Panthers have won all six games with Washington this season, including their only two victories in shootouts this season.

Predators 9, Flames 4: At Nashville, Tenn., Paul Kariya scored two power-play goals and added an assist for the Predators.

Steve Sullivan, Scott Nichol, Martin Erat, Greg Johnson, Kimmo Timonen, Jordin Tootoo and Darcy Hordichuk also scored for the Predators.
