Not that long ago 21-year-old actress Scarlett Johansson was charming critics by starring in little independent films.

Now she’s not only a big-time movie star, but she’s also atop at least one list of the “100 Sexiest Women in the World.”

Johansson was voted that honor in a poll of readers by FHM magazine.

“One of the best things for a woman to hear is that she is sexy,” the star of “Match Point” and “Lost in Translation,” said in a statement.

Angelina Jolie is No. 2 on the list, followed by Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Keira Knightley, Halle Berry, Jenny McCarthy, Maria Sharapova, Carmen Electra and Teri Hatcher.

Johansson ranked ninth on last year’s list. Jolie was No. 1.

“It’s remarkable how Scarlett Johansson has caught the attention of our readers,” said Scott Gramling, the magazine’s U.S. editor in chief. “Her sultry voice and striking beauty certainly have a lot to do with that, but so does the confidence she exudes. She seems to be one of those women who would be equally at ease on the red carpet as she would just hanging out with the guys.”

They’re just hairy for Barry

The “Fanilows” have something to cheer about.

Their idol, Barry Manilow, will keep crooning at the Las Vegas Hilton through 2008.

Manilow’s four-nights a week show changes nightly and features a cast of 14 in a 1,700-seat theater. Tickets cost from $95 to $225.

Li gets hit with lawsuit

Martial-arts star Jet Li is being sued by the family of a late kung fu master, whom Li portrays in his new film “Fearless.”

Huo Shoujin, grandson of the late Huo Yuanjia, filed suit in Beijing, alleging that “Fearless” dishonors and misrepresents his grandfather’s life.

Now you can cheat all night long

When the 25th anniversary edition of “Nine to Five” gets released on DVD this spring, viewers are likely to finds its message a bit dated

” ‘Nine to Five’ was trying to bring a female sensibility to the corporate world, which can really grind you down to nothing,” Lily Tomlin, who co-starred in the movie with Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton, told Time magazine.

“Look at the generation we’re creating, with ‘Survivor’ and all that stuff,” Tomlin said. “You’re supposed to outwit everybody and double-deal.”

Lansbury: Dancing, she spoke

She may never hit the hardwoods again. But thanks to knee-replacement surgery, 80-year-old Angela Lansbury can at least walk again.

“I’m not going to be dancing with the stars at this stage in my life,” the four-time Tony Award winner said. “But I want to dance and bop around, and I did, and I can.”

Her message to other women: “Don’t put it off.”
