Concert will benefit crisis nursery, SNAP

Covenant Christian Church is raising awareness and funds for the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery and the Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs with a concert today from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Met, 901 E. Sprague Ave.

The choir, the Voiceless, will perform at this concert, Heartsongs … from the Edge of the World. The choir is made up of members from Spokane’s homeless community and will perform music written by local composers and songwriters.

The cost is $10.

Mosque fundraiser

The Spokane Islamic Center is offering a dinner Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave.

The dinner will raise funds to establish a new mosque and community center in Spokane.

Global scope of HIV/AIDS

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive, and the United Nations Association Spokane will present Susan Fabrikant, the executive director of the Spokane AIDS Network, Monday at 7 p.m.

Fabricant will discuss the global issues and challenges of HIV/AIDS and what is being done on a local level to help.

Orthodox Christianity talk

Clark Carlton, an assistant professor of philosophy at Tennessee Tech University, will speak about Orthodox Christianity today at 4 p.m. in the Seeley G. Mudd Chapel at Whitworth College, 300 W. Hawthorne Road. Carlton will speak on the topic, “What is Eastern Orthodox Christianity?”

He will also speak tonight at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., at 7:30 p.m. The topic for this evening’s discussion is “Why I Became Orthodox and Why I Still Am.

Spaghetti feed

“Immanuel Baptist Church, 5109 N. Adams St., is presenting an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner to raise funds to help pay the medical expenses of Katie Kottle, a 36-year-old woman who recently received a kidney transplant.

The dinner will be Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m., just in time to carbo-load for Bloomsday.

The cost is $5 for adults and $1 for children.
