Jackson carries Storm to win

Lauren Jackson scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Seattle Storm to a 94-81 victory over the Phoenix Mercury Thursday night at Phoenix.

The Storm (2-1) held Phoenix (0-2) to 35 percent shooting (26 of 75) while outscoring the Mercury 54-18 inside.

Janell Burse, who sat out the first two games of the season, had 14 points and six rebounds for Seattle, while Betty Lennox added 10 points and five rebounds.

Diana Taurasi scored 28 points and rookie Cappie Pondexter added 21 for the Mercury.

Sting 73, Mystics 63: At Charlotte, N.C., Tammy Sutton-Brown scored 16 points, Monique Currie added 13 and the Sting beat Washington for their first victory.

Sparks 80, Silver Stars 71: At San Antonio, Lisa Leslie had 25 points and 16 rebounds, leading Los Angeles over the Silver Stars.

Comets 81, Monarchs 66: At Sacramento, Calif., Sheryl Swoopes scored 22 points and Tina Thompson added 19 for Houston, which never trailed on its way to a victory over the Monarchs.
