Vancouver reaches semis

From News Services The Spokesman-Review

MONCTON, New Brunswick – Two days ago, the Vancouver Giants looked as if they were down and out.

Today, the Western Hockey League champs are heading to the semifinal game of the MasterCard Memorial Cup.

The Giants dropped their first two games of the tournament before rallying for a gutsy win Tuesday against the Peterborough Petes. That win set up a loser-out game Thursday against the Petes, which the Giants won 6-0.

The Giants will face the host Moncton Wildcats in the semifinal game today.

Gilbert Brule led the way again for the Giants, scoring two of the team’s six power-play goals.

The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect added three assists in the win and leads the tournament with four goals and 11 points in four games.

The winner of today’s semifinal will face the Quebec Remparts (2-1) in the championship final Sunday.
