New Blisscotti ice cream sandwich will appeal to adults
The ice cream sandwich has grown up.
These aren’t the stick-to-your fingers and drip-down-your-chin treats passed out from the neighborhood ice cream cart. Built on slim biscotti, the sandwich is layered with European dark chocolate and premium ice cream.
Food panel tasters liked them enough to award each of the flavors they tasted four stars of five for flavor. Panel members noshed on Very Vanilla Bean, Lively Lemon Zest and Creamy Coffee Chip.
“Fantastic. I’d love to make a meal of these. No meat, no vegetable, just a plate full of ‘Blisscotti,’ ” said Larry Inman.
“It’s what you call the adult ice cream sandwich. Creamy coffee ice cream sandwiched between two scrumptious pieces of biscotti, which are chocolate coated on one side, of course,” said Skip Hubbard.
Peggy Kazanis added: “The light coffee flavor goes perfectly with the chocolate and cookie.”
The panel tasters also were surprised by the intensity of the lemon-flavored sandwich.
“The lemon meringue flavor is deluxe. Very creamy with intense flavors,” Kazanis said.
“I’d buy any of these,” Vicki Deschaine added. “A cup of coffee and this yummy sandwich would make an excellent summer dessert.”
The complaints were few. But a couple of people said they were frustrated that the ice cream filling had the tendency to squish out when they bit into their biscotti sandwiches. Others pointed out that if the sandwiches were turned so the biscotti slices were vertical the squishing could be minimized.
Marilyn Moore said she’d just rather have a dish of premium ice cream with biscotti on the side. “What a mess.”
The price of Blisscotti was too steep for most panel members. The sandwiches sell two to a box for $3.99. That earned a very low one-and-a-half-star rating from the panel for value.
Blisscotti is produced by Cold Standard Inc., based in Renton, Wash., and can be found in the freezer section in most area supermarkets. Blisscotti is also available in Marvelous Mint Chip and Silky Strawberry flavors.
