Welcome Home!

Cheryl-anne Millsap The Spokesman-Review

These days, when I come to work and sit down at my desk, I’m completely at home. A year and a half ago, when Pia Hansen and I were putting together a new section that would capture the feeling so many of us have about the places where we live, the pride of ownership and the pleasure we derive from taking a raw space and creating a home, I was just as new.

For years I had been a stay-at-home mother who drove car pool by day and wrote late into the night. For the past few years, most of those late-night writing projects were home and garden stories for this paper. As luck would have it, just about the time I got ready to re-enter the work world, The Spokesman-Review was getting ready to launch HOME.

It felt like a good fit.

Now, it’s time for another transition. Pia is moving into another position, and I’ve been named editor here. HOME is my baby, and I’m excited about watching it grow.

That feels like a good fit too.

I hope that each week, when you open each issue, you will feel as though you’ve been invited into the homes of readers just like you – friends and neighbors from this community.

This week we tour a little house in Spokane that has been lovingly brought into the 21st century. And we visit a beautiful garden in Hauser, Idaho, that features his and hers koi ponds.

We have how-to tips, advice for dealing with pets and a list of upcoming festivals and bazaars to help you get started on all that holiday shopping.

I’d like to know more about you. If you have suggestions, let me know. If you’d like to share, give us a call. We’d like to hear about your projects, and we’d like to help you share the story of the place you call home.
