Get your name off junk mail lists

The federal government produced a one-stop site to help consumers remove their phone numbers from telemarketers’ lists. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy to stop the tide of direct advertising hitting your mailbox.

If you want to knock down the junk mail — the old fashioned kind, like store fliers or credit card offers — use the Direct Marketing Association’s Mail Preference List, available online. It will cost you $1 to fill out the form.

The site claims it will reduce most, if not all, of the direct mail you’re getting.
