Pirates remain perfect
The Whitworth men’s basketball team completed a perfect road trip on Sunday with an 83-30 win over Caltech in the Caltech/Whittier Thanksgiving Classic.
With all five regular starters resting on the bench, Whitworth’s reserves dominated, led by the 18 points of Jerry Beverly.
The Pirates are now 6-0.
“The Community Colleges of Spokane men’s basketball team fell to Lower Columbia Community College 89-81 at the Lower Columbia Red Devils Classic.
Jon Clift led the Sasquatch (2-4) with 22 points.
CCS finished 1-2 in the tournament, taking fifth place.
Women’s basketball
The Gonzaga Bulldogs lost 68-57 to Hawaii in the third place contest of the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Tournament in Honolulu.
Stephanie Hawk led the Bulldogs (5-3) with 21 points.
“Breanne Watson scored 14 points and was named tournament MVP as Washington claimed the 2006 Basketball Travelers Husky Classic title with an 81-63 victory over Northern Iowa in Seattle.
Women’s volleyball
The second-ranked Washington volleyball team (25-4, 15-3 Pac-10) was selected as the No. 6 seed in the 2006 Division I Women’s Volleyball Championships and will travel to Boulder, Colo., to face Colorado State on Nov. 30 to open the tournament.
