Seau sustains injury to right arm
New England Patriots linebacker Junior Seau, who came out of retirement for one last run at a Super Bowl, left Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears with an injury to his right arm and would not return.
After initially reporting his return was doubtful, the team said in the third quarter that Seau was out for the game.
The 12-time Pro Bowl selection went to the turf with just under nine minutes left in the second quarter after tackling Cedric Benson for no gain at the Chicago 25-yard line. He walked off after a few minutes, waving to the cheering fans with his left hand while a trainer held his right arm still for him.
Falcon flips the Bird
Michael Vick apologized for his obscene gesture toward Atlanta fans as he walked off the field after the Falcons’ fourth straight loss.
Vick used both hands to deliver the gesture and flashed an angry look toward the handful of fans remaining in the Georgia Dome. Those who hung around booed the home team loudly after its dismal 31-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
“First and foremost, I would like to apologize for my inappropriate actions with fans today,” the quarterback said in a statement released by the Falcons. “I was frustrated and upset at how the game was going for my team, and that frustration came out the wrong way.”
Vick was the Falcons’ main offensive threat with 166 yards rushing, just 7 off his NFL record for a quarterback. He had another rough day passing, completing nine of 24 for 84 yards.
Perry makes early exit
Cincinnati running back Chris Perry was carted off the field with an injured right ankle in the second quarter of the game against the Cleveland Browns.
As he was being tackled on a 10-yard run, Perry got his legs rolled on by Browns linebacker Andra Davis. Perry stayed on the field for several minutes before being taken to the locker room for X-rays.
