Donated coats will help children stay warm

You can help keep kids warm this winter by participating in KXLY’s Coats 4 Kids drive.

Through Oct. 15, new or gently used coats may be dropped off at several locations.

In North Idaho, coats may be dropped off at participating Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and Lakeland schools. Other drop-off locations include the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 201 E. Harrison; Harding Family Center, 411 N. 15th St.; Tomlinson Black, 1400 Northwood Center Court; and all Coeur d’Alene Sterling Savings Bank locations.

In Spokane, coats may be dropped off at all Sterling Savings Bank locations, Tomlinson Black Realties, area Schelling’s Martinizing Cleaners and the KXLY studio, 500 W. Boone Ave.

Creative Kids contest

Vote on your favorite Creative Kids photo and help raise money for KHQ-TV’s “Success By 6” program.

Visit Auntie’s Bookstore and view photos created by Follger’s Photography Studio and its clients. Then, for $1, you can vote for your favorite through Friday.

All proceeds will go to the “Success By 6” children’s literacy program. For more information, call (509) 535-7102.

Transitions breakfast

On Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., join Transitions for the fourth annual “People Who Care, Helping Women Who Dare” fundraising breakfast.

The complimentary breakfast will be at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park, 303 W. North River Drive. The public is asked to RSVP and to arrive between 7 and 7:30 a.m. Donations will be appreciated.

Transitions provides basic needs for low-income women and children through the Women’s Hearths, Miryam’s House, the Transitional Living Center and EduCare.

St. Charles’ Oktoberfest

The St. Charles’ Oktoberfest will be Saturday and Sunday at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 4515 N. Alberta St.

The festivities begin Saturday at 9 a.m. with craft booths, carnival activities, pies and cakes, with a bingo game from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. ending the day.

Sunday’s activities will begin at 8 a.m. and end at noon.

Alzheimer’s walk

You can put on your walking shoes on Saturday to participate in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Inland Northwest Chapter Memory Walk and Doggie Walk.

In Spokane County, the Doggie Walk begins at 10 a.m. and the Memory Walk begins at 11 a.m. at CenterPlace at Mirabeau Point Park, 2426 N. Discovery Place, Spokane Valley.

In North Idaho, both walks begin at 10 a.m. at Farragut State Park, near Athol.

Proceeds from the three-mile walks will go toward raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and the services that the association provides.

There is no fee to participate in either walk. Donations will be appreciated.
