Apologetics conference to discuss ‘DaVinci Code’

People of faith wondering about the “The DaVinci Code” can discuss the best-selling book and movie at this year’s Greater Northwest Apologetics Team conference next Thursday through Oct. 15.

The event, entitled “Truth, Lies and Confusion – Life Lessons with the DaVinci Code” is designed to engage people in various issues raised by the book and movie. It will feature six speakers. The conference is being organized by local pastors and a group called the Greater Northwest Apologetics Team, founded by the Rev. John Repsold of Fourth Memorial Church about two years ago. Apologetics is the branch of theology that deals with the defense and proof of Christianity.

Other sponsoring churches are: Valley Fourth Memorial Church, Spokane Valley; His Place in Post Falls; Life Center; Calvary Chapel; Shiloh Hills Fellowship and Mt. Spokane Church in Mead. Area colleges also are involved.

Admission is free for all sessions except Saturday’s general session at Fourth Memorial Church, 2000 N. Standard St. The cost is $15 for two, purchased in advance at sponsoring churches, or $25 for two at the door. Tickets are being sold in pairs only.

Whitworth College, next Thursday, 4:30 p.m., Campus Chapel, with Chuck Missler.

University of Idaho, next Thursday, 7 p.m., Nugent Theater, with Doug Geivett.

Gonzaga University, Oct. 13, 4 p.m., Administration Building, Room 101, with Ron Tacelli.

Eastern Washington University, Oct. 13, 4 p.m., Showalter Auditorium, with Ben Witherington.

Fourth Memorial Church, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Oct. 14

Fourth Memorial Church, all-day conference, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Oct. 15

Speakers will be divided among sponsoring churches for Sunday morning worship.

“Ronald Tacelli: Author of “What’s The Secret of the Popularity of the DaVinci Code?”

“Ben Witherington: Professor of New Testament Interpretation at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky. Author of “Mary Magdalene and the Role of Women in the New Testament and Early Church”

“Chuck Missler: Bible teacher, and founder of the Koinonia House ministry based out of Coeur d’Alene. Author of “What Is Truth?”
