Cronin will play at Portland

Tara Cronin’s decision to attend the University of Portland brings to seven the number of Greater Spokane League athletes who have announced they will play Division I basketball next year.

Cronin, a Gonzaga Prep two-sport standout, made her oral commitment to the West Coast Conference school on Monday.

“I’m looking to go into engineering and they have a great program,” said Cronin. “It’s a perfect fit.”

USHL drafts Johnson

Tyler Johnson of Liberty Lake was drafted by the Tri-City (Nebraska) Storm of the United States Hockey League Junior A (USHL) Wednesday during its futures draft. Johnson went in the ninth round, 93rd overall. He is playing for the Coeur d’Alene Lakers and was drafted by the Spokane Chiefs.

Apple Cup tickets on sale

The Washington State University ticket office will place all remaining Apple Cup tickets on sale Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Cougars’ athletic Web site – www.wsucougars.com.

Tickets for the Nov. 18 game at Pullman will be available online only. Tickets are $50 each, with an additional $10 processing charge applied to every order. Sales will be limited to 12 tickets per customer. There will be no refunds or exchanges on tickets purchased through the online sale.

The Apple Cup kickoff is 3:45 p.m. at Martin Stadium and will be televised live by FSN.
