Rotary offers ethics seminar for youth

High school sophomores, juniors and seniors and their school counselors are invited to attend the 2006 Youth Leadership Summit on Ethics: Courage, Conduct and Character.

A pre-summit rally is planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Red Lion River Inn, and the summit will be from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Saturday at Gonzaga University. Check-in and continental breakfast will be from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m.

The Liberty Lake Centennial Rotary Club in partnership with Gonzaga has planned the event, which will include panel discussions and activities facilitated by more than 20 community leaders.

Topics include ethics in law, medicine, media, business, government, sports and competition, computers and the Internet, friends, family, global context, environment and education.

The event has raised about $50,000 for funding the event and future scholarships for graduating seniors.

Keynote speakers include: Tom Flick, former NFL quarterback; the Rev. Robert Spitzer, GU president; and Tom McGuire, chairman of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University.

Cost is $25, including lunch and snacks. Space is limited to 200 applicants.

In-person registration will be accepted from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Friday rally, depending on space.
