Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Todd Bertuzzi wasted little time making a good impression on the Florida Panthers.

Bertuzzi had a goal and three assists – his first four-point night since Feb. 25, 2003 – in his Florida debut, and Joe Nieuwendyk had two goals and an assist as the Panthers opened the season with an 8-3 win over the Boston Bruins on Friday night in Sunrise, Fla.

Devils 4, Hurricanes 0: At Raleigh, N.C., Zach Parise scored twice and Brian Gionta had three assists to lead New Jersey past Carolina, sending the Stanley Cup champions to a second straight home loss to open the season.

Canucks 3, Blue Jackets 2 (OT): At Columbus, Ohio, Daniel Sedin tied it in the closing minutes of regulation, then scored off a rebound 31 seconds into overtime to give Vancouver a victory over the Blue Jackets.

Sabres 5, Canadiens 4 (SO): At Buffalo, N.Y., Maxim Afinogenov forced overtime with 15 seconds left in regulation and then scored in a shootout, rallying the Sabres to a victory over Montreal.

Ducks 4, Kings 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Chris Kunitz had a goal and an assist, Teemu Selanne added two assists and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 41 saves as the Ducks edged Los Angeles in the season opener for both teams. Rookie Anze Kopitar scored twice for the Kings.
