Cougars net first Pac-10 win of season

Kelly Rosin recorded 18 kills and 12 digs, propelling Washington State to a 27-30, 30-17, 30-21, 29-31, 15-13 win over Oregon State (3-10, 0-4) in Pullman for its first Pac-10 volleyball win of the season.

Faleti Adetokunbo landed a match-high 22 kills, and Brittany Johnson hit a team-high .327 on her way to 20 kills for the Cougars (13-16, 1-4).

•Fifth-ranked Washington posted a 26-30, 30-22, 30-23, 30-27 Pac-10 win over Oregon in Seattle.

•Community Colleges of Spokane landed wins over Grays Harbor and Everett, but fell to Capilino at the Whatcom Crossover Tournament in Bellingham.

Men’s soccer

Vito Higgins made seven saves to help Gonzaga in a 0-0 double-overtime draw against No. 17 Santa Clara in West Coast Conference play at Martin Field.

The Bulldogs (3-5-2, 0-3-1) continued their home-field dominance over the Broncos (6-3-3, 2-1-1), as Gonzaga is 5-2-1 overall at home against Santa Clara, including last year’s 2-1 win over the then ranked No. 11 Broncos.

•Galen Thompson and Dan Shapiro scored to help Stanford (4-4-3, 2-0-1) upset No. 9 Washington (8-3-0, 1-3-0) 2-0 in Pac-10 play at Seattle.

•CC Spokane’s game against visiting Peninsula was postponed after Peninsula’s bus broke down. The match is rescheduled for noon Sunday.

Women’s soccer

Eastern Washington and Northern Colorado (5-7, 0-1) were knotted 0-0 after the first half, but the Eagles scored twice in the second for a 2-0 Big Sky Conference win in Cheney.

Eastern Washington’s (5-7, 1-0) Melissa Guthrie broke the scoreless tie in the 74th minute after burying a long pass from Morgan Lutgens, and Shelly Ikerd added an insurance goal in the 90th minute.

•Penelope Crowe scored two unassisted goals late in the second half to boost Whitworth in a 3-0 win over Lewis & Clark in a Northwest Conference match in Portland.

Jael Hagerott also scored for the Pirates (7-1-2, 5-1-1), who battled the Pioneers (3-7-1, 1-5-1) to a scoreless draw through the first 70 minutes.

•Katlyn Laughlin opened the scoring in the 13th minute and scored again in the second half to boost CC Spokane in a 3-0 blanking of Yakima Valley in NWAACC action at Spokane Falls.

Lindsay Hood also scored for the Sasquatch (8-3-0), who outshot the Yaks (3-4-2) 26-3.

•Idaho opened Western Athletic Conference play with a 4-0 loss to Hawaii after giving up four goals late in the second half in Moscow, Idaho.

The Vandals (0-13-0) suffered a red card penalty in the 51st minute and Hawaii (7-5-2) took full advantage with four scores on 20 second-half shots.
