Meth Watch informs groups, community about drug issues

Name of program: Meth Watch presentations

What it does: These presentations provide information to the public and retailers about the products used to make methamphetamine and the effects this drug has on the community, according to Linda Thompson, executive director of the Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council.

The program organizes a Meth Action Team to meet once a month to schedule presentations and train volunteers to facilitate the PowerPoint presentation.

Meth Watch also provides retailers with stickers, posters and other signs to help employees and customers recognize many of the products that are not necessarily associated with illegal substances, such as ephedrine.

It also educates groups about how meth affects children.

Who runs it: The GSSAC

How to get help: Anyone interested in viewing this program can call the GSSAC at 922-8383. The program prefers to give presentations to groups of 20 or more people.

Typical client: The program has been presented to Rotary groups, Kiwanis, businesses, and at town halls, schools and churches.

How to give help: Thompson said that there is always a need for volunteers to facilitate this presentation to groups. There is also a board of directors for anyone interested in taking a leadership role.

Donations of money, office supplies, meeting halls and more are also accepted.
