Bryant Hahnfeldt kicked a 33-yard field goal with 2 seconds remaining and Vanderbilt pulled off an upset, beating No. 16 Georgia 24-22 on Saturday in Athens, Ga.

It seemed the Bulldogs (5-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) would get a lackluster victory when Tony Taylor returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown with just less than 91/2 minutes remaining for a 22-21 lead.

But Georgia failed on the two-point conversion that would have forced Vanderbilt (3-4, 1-3) to go for a touchdown on its final possession.

As it was, the Commodores only needed a field goal. Chris Nickson led a 15-play, 65-yard drive that set up the attempt.

(1) Ohio State 38, Michigan State 7: At East Lansing, Mich., the top-ranked Buckeyes (7-0, 3-0 Big Ten) extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 14 games by downing the Spartans (3-4, 0-3).

Michigan State entered the game averaging 31 points per contest. But the Spartans gained just 79 yards in the first half and trailed 24-0 at the break.

Troy Smith completed 15 of 22 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

(4) Michigan 17, Penn State 10: At State College, Pa., the Wolverines smothered Penn State’s offense, and Adrian Arrington and Mike Hart each scored touchdowns to provide enough offense for Michigan (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) to stay unbeaten.

Michigan’s front seven was too tough and fast for Penn State (4-3, 2-2), getting into the backfield often to pressure or sack Nittany Lions starting quarterback Anthony Morelli.

(5) West Virginia 41, Syracuse 17: At Morgantown, W. Va., quarterback Pat White ran for a career-high 247 yards and four touchdowns as the Mountaineers defeated the Orangemen (3-4, 0-2).

Steve Slaton ran for 163 yards and a touchdown as the Mountaineers (6-0, 1-0 Big East) extended their winning streak to 13 games.

(6) Texas 63, Baylor 31: At Austin, Texas, Colt McCoy had six touchdown passes and the Longhorns (6-1, 3-0 Big 12) beat the Bears (3-4, 2-1).

McCoy’s sixth scoring pass, a 50-yard strike to Limas Sweed in the fourth quarter, broke the school record of five held by James Brown (1994) and Chris Simms (2001).

McCoy finished with a career-high 275 yards. Limas Sweed and Billy Pittman each caught two touchdowns.

Shawn Bell passed for 303 yards and two touchdowns and even caught one on a trick play in the third quarter for Baylor.

(7) Louisville 23, Cincinnati 17: At Louisville, Ky., Brian Brohm threw for 324 yards and a touchdown, but the Cardinals had to hang on for a win over the Bearcats.

Cincinnati (3-4, 0-2 Big East) held the Cardinals (6-0, 1-0) to 21 points less than their scoring average and had a chance for an upset late, but Dustin Grutza’s pass to Earnest Jackson was broken up in the end zone.

(14) LSU 49, Kentucky 0: At Baton Rouge, La., Dwayne Bowe caught three touchdown passes, highlighting the victory over Kentucky.

Bowe caught six passes for 111 yards to spearhead the win for the Tigers (5-2, 2-2 SEC). JaMarcus Russell completed his first 12 passes against the Wildcats (3-4, 1-3) in the win.

Indiana 31, (15) Iowa 28: At Bloomington, Ind., James Hardy caught three touchdown passes, and quarterback Kellen Lewis produced his second straight fourth-quarter rally as Indiana upset Iowa.

The Hawkeyes (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten) are the highest-ranked opponent the Hoosiers (4-3, 2-1) have beaten in nearly 20 years, dating to a 31-10 victory over No. 9 Ohio State on Oct. 10, 1987.

(17) Arkansas 63, Southeast Missouri State 7: At Fayetteville, Ark., Darren McFadden ran 52 yards for a touchdown on Arkansas’ first offensive play, and the Razorbacks rolled to a lopsided victory.

Arkansas (5-1) used big running plays to dismantle the Redhawks (3-3). McFadden finished with 71 yards on only six carries, and Felix Jones had 106 on just five, including an 85-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Texas A&M 25, (19) Missouri 19: At College Station, Texas, Jorvorskie Lane ran for 127 yards and a touchdown and Texas A&M kept the Tigers (6-1, 2-1 Big 12) from their best start in 46 years.

Stephen McGee was 19 for 23 for 183 yards and a touchdown for the Aggies (6-1, 2-1).

(21) Nebraska 21, Kansas State 3: At Manhattan, Kan., Nebraska gambled and won on a pair of tricky fourth-down calls, including a fake field goal, beating Kansas State and snapping the Cornhuskers’ four-game losing streak in Manhattan.

The Huskers (6-1, 3-0 Big 12) had not beaten Kansas State (4-3, 1-2) on the road since a 39-3 win on Oct. 5, 1996.

(23) Oklahoma 34, Iowa State 9: At Norman, Okla., Adrian Peterson ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns to lead Oklahoma to a win against Iowa State.

Paul Thompson threw for 195 yards and two TDs as the Sooners (4-2, 1-1 Big 12) bounced back from a 28-10 loss to Texas with the win over the Cyclones (3-3, 0-3).

(24) Rutgers 38, Navy 0: At Annapolis, Md., Mike Teel threw a career-high three touchdown passes, and Rutgers blanked Navy to improve to 6-0 for the first time in 30 years.

The Scarlet Knights limited the nation’s top-ranked rushing offense to 113 yards on 50 carries. Navy (5-2) had been averaging 350.5 yards on the ground.

(25) Wisconsin 48, Minnesota 12: At Madison, Wis., John Stocco threw four touchdown passes and P.J. Hill ran for two scores as the Badgers beat the Gophers to keep Paul Bunyan’s Axe.

Wisconsin (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) got an early defensive touchdown and wasted little time turning Hill loose on the Gophers (2-5, 0-4). The redshirt freshman responded with 165 yards on 25 carries.
