Whitworth men’s soccer takes down Willamette

Sean Lambrecht scored two goals to lead Whitworth to a 2-1 comeback victory over Willamette in a Northwest Conference soccer match Saturday in Salem, Ore.

Lambrecht’s goal in the 39th minute broke a 1-1 tie.

The Pirates, who held Willamette to just four shots, improve to 6-3-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the NWC. Willamette is now 1-11-1 overall and 0-7-1 in conference play.

• CC Spokane beat Tacoma 2-0 in a NWAACC match in Tacoma. Chris Valud and Neil Bachman both scored goals for the Sasquatch.

Women’s soccer

Emily Gross’ goal in the 60th minute proved to be the difference as Willamette topped Whitworth 1-0 in a Northwest Conference match in Salem, Ore.

The Pirates (8-2-2, 6-2-1), who outshot Willamette (11-1-1, 8-1) 14-9, had a golden opportunity to tie the game in the 88th minute, but Willamette goalkeeper Kari Woody saved a penalty-kick attempt by Jael Hagerott.

• CC Spokane and Tacoma fought to a 1-1 NWAACC tie in Tacoma. Anna Roselli scored Tacoma’s goal and Kaelyn Laughlin scored for the Sasquatch.

• Portland State (2-11, 2-1) beat Eastern Washington (5-9-1, 1-2) 1-0 in a Big Sky Conference match Friday in Portland.

Cross country

The Washington State women’s cross country team finished 17th out of 73 teams at the Pre-Nationals Cross Country Meet in Terre Haute, Ind. The Cougar women were led by Haley Paul, who finished the 6,000-meter course 20 minutes, 47.3 seconds to take 21st.

The WSU men took 20th place out of 72 teams. Woody Favinger led the Cougars, finished the 8,000 in 24:25.7, good enough for 44th place.

•The Eastern Washington women’s team finished second and the Gonzaga men also took second at the Eastern Washington University Invitational in Cheney.

EWU’s Camille Moseley finished the 5,000 in 19:00.2 to earn fourth place.

The Gonzaga women took third, led by the ninth-place finish of Kara Rasmussen.

On the men’s side, Joe Miller finished the 8,000 course in 25:26.2 to take fourth place to lead the Bulldogs. The Eastern Washington men took fourth place, led by the second-place finish of Paul Limpf, who ran the course in 25:05.8.

• The CC Spokane men’s team finished first at the Runners Soul Bigfoot Open held at Spokane Falls Community College. CC Spokane’s Charles Cummings took second place, running the 8,000 in 26:23.

The Whitworth men finished last out of four teams. The Pirates were led by Jeff Grassley, who took 15th place with a time of 27:18.

On the women’s side, Julie Lauterbach finished the 5,000 in 18:34 to take second and guide the Whitworth women to a second-place finish.

Larsen Agee was the top Sasquatch finisher, running a 18:56 to take sixth.
