“Paul Haeder of Spokane recently won awards in the Washington Wilderness Coalition’s “Words for Wilderness” prose and poetry contest. He won first place in the poetry category with his poem “Drinking Bly’s Martini Near Latah Creek.” He also received an honorable mention for his poem “White Sands, Mummified Rodent, the Sky.”

“Shaun Greer of Nine Mile Falls was named to the spring dean’s list at Gonzaga University. A student must hold a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher to be named to the list.

“Air Force 1st Lt. Ira Field recently earned his silver pilot’s wings after graduating from the specialized undergraduate pilot training program at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. Field, who has two years of military service, is a 2000 graduate of Pullman High School and a 2004 graduate of Central Washington University. He is the son of Merry Field of Pullman.

Idaho

Hayden Lake resident Blake Alfson recently won several awards in the World Champion-

ships of the Performing Arts in Hollywood. The event featured 1,000 competitors from around the world. Alfson won gold medals in the acting and spokesmodel categories and silver medals in the acting, piano and stage combat categories. He also won two champion of the world titles in the junior division acting and spokesmodel categories. He was one of 40 selected to advance to the finals, where he performed a monologue at the Hollywood Palladium.
